FAQ'S

FAQ'S

Why should I be concerned about lead exposure?

Swallowing lead can cause many health problems. If you accidentally swallow lead, it can result in  serious health issues for your children because their bodies are fragile. They do not have a strong nervous system and the ones who are younger than 6 have a nervous system that’s still developing. Ingesting or inhaling too much lead can cause many problems such as:

  • Speech issues
  • Hearing issues
  • Growth issues
  • Learning issues
How do I know if I am being exposed to lead?
Small amounts of lead found in adults is not considered harmful, however even low levels of lead in children can be dangerous. Common symptoms of lead poisoning include headaches, stomach aches, cramps, fatigue, muscle and joint pains. Often times adults who have lead poisoning may not experience symptoms or appear ill. Ultimately, the only way to confirm lead poisoning is to check the amount of lead in a person’s blood. It could be a sign of lead exposure. Also, you can check for lead in your home’s water supply and soil if you live close to a factory, power plant or any other source of lead contamination. If you do find lead in your environment, we recommend having a professional perform a lead paint inspection . We make hiring a lead paint expert easy and convenient!
What is Local Law 31?
Local Law 31 is a law that requires owners of properties built before 1960 to have lead-based paint inspections and tests for other lead hazards if there is any work done on the property. This law was put in place to protect families from exposure to lead and its hazardous effects. The law also requires the landlords to disclose if there is lead-based paint on the property so that tenants can be aware of it.
I am buying a property, should I get it tested for lead-based paint?

If your property dates back to before the 1980s and you are planning to purchase it, it’s best to get it tested for lead-based paint. Lead-based paint was used up until 1978 and can still be present on walls, windows and doors. By getting it tested you can protect your family from exposure to lead and its hazardous effects. Especially if your property will be rented out to families and tenants with children 6 years of age or younger, you will want to have the domicile inspected for lead based paint.

Getting your home certified as compliant with Local Law 31 is the best way to ensure that your property remains safe from hazardous lead traces. Our EPA-certified & licensed professionals make sure that your inspection follows NYC Housing Preservation & Development (HPD) guidelines and protocols. We provide comprehensive reports that include all the necessary specifications to help you get back in compliance promptly.
