Local Law 31 is a law that requires owners of properties built before 1960 to have lead-based paint inspections and tests for other lead hazards if there is any work done on the property. This law was put in place to protect families from exposure to lead and its hazardous effects. The law also requires the landlords to disclose if there is lead-based paint on the property so that tenants can be aware of it.

I am buying a property, should I get it tested for lead-based paint?

If your property dates back to before the 1980s and you are planning to purchase it, it’s best to get it tested for lead-based paint.
